Helping Autism-Related Aggression & Meltdowns
A Calm, Individualized, Whole-Body Approach
Aggression and intense meltdowns are rarely behavioral problems—they are usually signs of a dysregulated nervous system. At our clinic, we focus on helping the brain and body feel safer, calmer, and more balanced—without sedation or personality changes.
We prioritize the least invasive, most effective options first and avoid medications that cause emotional blunting or make children feel like “zombies.” Our goal is to support regulation while preserving your child’s individuality.
Low-Dose Naltrexone (LDN)
Low-Dose Naltrexone (LDN) has become one of our most effective tools for reducing aggression, irritability, and emotional dysregulation in children and teens with autism.
At very low doses, LDN helps calm neuroinflammation, which plays a major role in mood instability and behavioral intensity. Families often report improvements in emotional regulation, transitions, and overall behavior—without sedation.
What makes our results different is careful, individualized dosing. We adjust slowly and intentionally based on your child’s response, not a standard protocol.
Leucovorin (Folinic Acid)
Leucovorin is another cornerstone therapy we frequently use—especially for children experiencing aggression, irritability, language challenges, or cognitive overload.
Leucovorin supports folate metabolism in the brain, which can directly impact:
Emotional regulation
Frustration tolerance
Language and communication
Behavioral flexibility
We are seeing strong clinical responses, particularly in children whose aggression appears tied to neurologic overwhelm rather than willful behavior. As with all treatments, dosing is individualized and adjusted carefully over time.
Oxytocin Nasal Spray (When Appropriate)
Oxytocin is a naturally occurring hormone involved in social bonding, emotional regulation, and stress response. In select children, oxytocin nasal spray may help support:
Emotional connection and warmth
Reduced fight-or-flight responses
Improved calming and regulation
Decreased aggression related to social stress
This option is not for every child, but for families interested in more targeted neurologic and emotional regulation support, it may be a meaningful addition to care when used thoughtfully and under medical guidance.
Supportive Therapies We Often Use Alongside These Options
Depending on your child’s needs, we may also incorporate a combination of supportive therapies, including:
Magnesium – supports nervous system calming, sleep, and sensory regulation
Methylcobalamin (B12) – helps support brain signaling, focus, and emotional regulation
Targeted nutritional support – addressing nutrient deficiencies that may impact behavior
Gut–brain axis support – reducing inflammation and improving neurologic regulation
Anti-inflammatory and detox support – helping lower the overall stress load on the nervous system
Herbal and botanical medicine – gentle options to support calming and emotional balance
Lifestyle and nervous system regulation strategies – supporting sleep, routines, and stress resilience
These supports are often used in combination and are always tailored to the individual child—not a diagnosis or protocol.
A Personalized Plan—Not a One-Size-Fits-All Protocol
Every child with autism is different. That’s why we don’t rush into heavy medications or rigid treatment plans. We meet your child where they are and build a thoughtful, individualized approach that supports long-term regulation—not just short-term control.
If you’re looking for support for aggression and meltdowns that respects your child’s nervous system and who they are—you’re in the right place.
